After learning about Celtic designs, I was attracted to the Celtic design of the Trinity. There are many different meanings to the Trinity design where as the most popular is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Other examples could be:
Mind, Body, Spirit
Mother, Father, Child
Past, Present, Future
Power, Intellect, Love
Creator, Destroyer, Sustainer
Creation, Preservation, Destruction
Thought, Feeling, Emotion
In this design, the ancient Celtic design is usually one solid color, but I chose to use 3. I chose purple, blue, and green. All these colors have something that connects them together, by sharing the color blue to create unity. Professor Martin helped me get started today on this project by teaching me how to mat board. The textured back ground is a sample of wallpaper that I thought would complement the design with straight lines and repetition. The design was drawn onto the piece of plexiglass and then I tried to use markers to color it, but it would just wipe off so I decided to use acrylic paint. This design is dominated by line and repetition. Just like every ancient Celtic design, it catches your eye and makes you follow the lines. The form of the design is in a pyramid shape. The two lighter colors on the bottom, separated by the darker color in the center creates a balance. Space is created in this piece through the use of overlap in lines and color. Let me know what you think!
